James Bond Die Another Day (2002)
The 20th film in the James Bond series, “Die Another Day” is a 2002 spy film produced by Eon Productions. Directed by Lee Tamahori, it stars Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, the fictional MI6 agent, and Halle Berry as NSA agent Giacinta “Jinx” Johnson, the Bond girl. This film marked the 40th anniversary of the James Bond franchise and features references to each of the preceding films. John Cleese and Samantha Bond also co-star as Q and Miss Moneypenny, respectively.
The film follows Bond as he investigates a mole within British intelligence and uncovers a British billionaire’s connection to a North Korean operative. Despite receiving mixed reviews for its reliance on CGI and product placement, as well as its unoriginal plot, “Die Another Day” was the highest-grossing James Bond film at the time of its release.
Bond infiltrates a North Korean military base and after a hovercraft chase with Colonel Tan-Sun Moon, Bond is captured and imprisoned by the Korean People’s Army. After being traded for Zao in a prisoner exchange, Bond is suspended from his status as a 00 Agent, but he escapes MI6 custody and travels to Havana to meet NSA agent Jinx Johnson. Together, they follow a trail of conflict diamonds to British billionaire Gustav Graves, who is revealed to be Colonel Moon in disguise.
At his ice palace in Iceland, Graves unveils a new orbital mirror satellite, “Icarus”, which is able to focus solar energy on a small area and provide year-round sunshine for agriculture. Bond and Jinx pursue Graves and Frost to the Korean peninsula and discover the true purpose of Icarus: to cut a path through the Korean Demilitarized Zone, allowing North Korean troops to invade South Korea. After a battle on a cargo plane and a fistfight with Graves, Bond and Jinx escape with Graves’ stash of diamonds.
With action-packed scenes and thrilling twists, “Die Another Day” is a must-see film for fans of James Bond movies.
